Pilot Wife

When we moved back to Orlando I realized that I no longer really know my childhood friends - surprise. So I started using craigslist and meet-up to look for new people. I haven't had much luck so far. I've met people, but no one who's sticking.

Lately I've been interested in finding more pilot wives and was thinking of starting a meet-up for this. I did a google search and found this site. Neat huh? It didn't remedy my problem so I'm still searching and pondering.

Update: I wanted to first respond to packphour's comment - which I do sometimes feel to be true, but I'm social, and I'm on those sites. It's funny, the older you get the harder it is to make friends. I can't walk up to a person with a similar style who seems nice and say "want to go play on the monkey bars". :) Don't worry though, the internet is just one method of expanding my social circle.

The second update is that over the weekend I had lunch with Misty, a fellow pilot wife who's husband is at about the same place C was when we met. He's just about to become a flight instructor in Sanford. So, random internet search equals success!

You never know what "category friend" finds will turn up, but every effort is at least that- an effort. From my experience it's not been as efficient as working yourself to friends of friends of friends of friends (x eternity) or making the first effort at conversation when you normally wouldn't.

But back to what you've tried. The online stuff rarely seems to work (speaking from experience). If they were truly social, they would have made (and maintained) friendships outside of the comfort & safety of home.

Just a few random thoughts. Talk to you soon.

I'll stick! I'll stick! Even if you may not WANT me to! ha!!! I definitely feel a bit lonely here!

Funny, I was going to reply to packphour and let him know that I actually did meet someone from my new find, and then Misty - my new pilot wife buddy - did if for me :)

P4 - I find it ironic that you're so skeptical of starting friendship online when you've a long history of it yourself... ^_-

Thanks for commenting.

Hey I'm a fellow "pilot wife" (well technically girlfriend) but I just wanted to say hello! I know what it's like to move and need to meet friends. I too joined meetup and also find some other expat friends on other forums. Funny you mention the internet being only one method of expanding your circle. The internet is my primary way unfortunately since I work from home. Oh well :) I think it's a great way to meet friends, espeically when you move to a new city or country!
